Hospice Care

Adding Life to Your Days

Doctor’s visits. Specialists in distant cities. Waiting at the pharmacy. Late-night trips to the emergency room. Wouldn’t you rather stay at home?

A Different Kind of Healthcare

People with serious illnesses face unique issues that traditional healthcare does not address. When treatment is no longer possible or effective, many people feel afraid, overwhelmed, or defeated—all while still battling the disease every day. Hospice is a special kind of healthcare that aims to ease the person’s suffering, relieve social, emotional, or spiritual pain, and provide support for family and friends affected by the illness.

Caring for the Whole PersonBurke Hospice Care

Burke Hospice and Palliative Care’s team of hospice professionals works with your doctor to create your plan of care. Each hospice team member will then schedule visits in your home:

  • A nurse to manage and ease your medical condition
  • A nurse’s aide to assist with bathing and grooming
  • A social worker to help with social, emotional, or family issues
  • A chaplain for spiritual care
  • A volunteer for companionship and family support

Each hospice team member is dedicated to using his or her special skills and experience to make you as comfortable as possible.

Relief and Resources

Burke Hospice care covers a wide range of potential expenses, including the following:

  • All medical supplies, equipment and medications that are related to your illness
  • Therapies as needed
  • 24-hour on-call nurses to help prevent late-night ER trips
  • Confidential assistance with organizing your affairs
  • Advance Directives completion (Living Will, DNR, will, etc.)
  • Ongoing bereavement counseling to caregivers, family and friends

Medicare and Medicaid both pay for hospice care. Many private insurance plans also have a hospice benefit. For those without coverage, Burke Hospice and Palliative Care offers a flexible billing policy. No one is ever denied care.

A person can request hospice care as soon as their diagnosis, so don’t delay. If hospice care sounds helpful to you, call Burke Hospice and Palliative Care today at 828-879-1601 and ask the operator for the Admissions Department.
